What we stand for

Outcomes over hype

We tie every project to a measurable result.

Plain language

No jargon walls. We explain what we're doing and why.

Human-in-the-loop

AI augments people; it doesn't surprise them. Important decisions keep a human approver.

Privacy and safety first

Client data is protected, minimized, and never used to train public models without explicit consent.

Honesty

We say when AI is not the right answer.

Start small, scale what works

Prove value first, then grow.

Who we are

Tim Patten, founder — Tim works hands-on with AI every day: building and running real systems, from automated marketing to customer support workflows. He started Grassroots Intelligence to bring that same practical automation to businesses without technical teams. No hype, no jargon: just AI that saves time and pays for itself. Photo coming soon

Our approach to responsible AI

AI is powerful, and power needs guardrails. Here's how we work:

  • Data minimization: we only access what's needed for the job.
  • No training on your data: we use vendors and settings that don't train on business data where available.
  • Access control: least-privilege access, secure credential storage, access revoked when the project ends.
  • Human oversight: customer-facing and high-stakes outputs (legal, medical, financial, HR) get human review.
  • Transparency: chatbots disclose they are AI where required or appropriate.
  • No professional advice: we don't provide legal, medical, tax, or financial advice. Our tools assist; they don't replace licensed professionals.
  • Accuracy: AI can make mistakes. We build checks, cite source documents where possible, and create escalation paths.
  • Regulatory awareness: we work with Canada's PIPEDA and CASL, US CAN-SPAM and state privacy laws, and EU/UK GDPR in mind — and we recommend clients get their own legal review for regulated uses.
  • Bias and fairness: we avoid AI for decisions that unfairly affect people, like fully automated hiring rejection.
  • Written agreements: service agreement on every project, NDA on request, data processing terms where needed.

Work with people who tell it straight

If AI can help your business, we'll show you how. If it can't, we'll tell you that too.
